When I was young and unattached, I had a beauty routine for morning and night.  It consisted of the basics like brushing my teeth and taking a shower, plus some extras like exfoliating, straightening my hair, and curling my eyelashes.  These days showering is a luxury and forget about exfoliating.  Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Moms spend a lot of their time taking care other people, but it's important to take care of ourselves, too.

That doesn’t mean that us moms don’t still want to look and feel our best.  It just means that we need to adjust our routines to be more realistic for our busy lives.

5 Steps to Creating Your Routine

Set your priorities.  What’s really important to you when it comes to beauty?  For example, according to a survey by the makers of Sensodyne®,  87% of women say that having a white, shiny smile is important to them.  Maybe you’re one of them.  Maybe a must-have for you is freshly styled hair.  Busy moms don’t have the time to go through complex routines, so figure out what you need to feel your best and focus on those things.

Quality over quantity.  Subscription boxes are all the rage, and while they can be a good way to find new products, you often end up with a cabinet full of stuff you’ll never use.  All that clutter can get in the way of creating a manageable beauty routine.  My advice is to try everything out, and toss everything you don’t LOVE, and cancel your subscription once you find what works for you.

Get real.  How much time do you actually have to spend on beauty each day?  Not much.  Take a look at what you said your priorities are, and start with them.  How much time does it take to style your hair?  What’s left over?  Are you really willing to stay up 15 minutes later to use that 3-step facial cleanser?  I’ve wasted a lot of time and money on products that didn’t work because they just didn’t fit into my lifestyle.  Be honest about what you will and will not do.

In the same vein, know what your body will or will not tolerate.  I have sensitive skin, so I have to be careful about what I use on my face.  I also have sensitive teeth, making most whitening products, at best, too harsh and, at worst, downright painful.  Sensodyne® True White® is 10x less abrasive than many leading whitening toothpastes*, providing gentle stain removal and active stain protection.

*Based on Relative Dentin Abrasivity testing against 15 products in the top 80% of the whitening toothpaste market.

Do double duty.  By using products that do more than one thing you get more bang for your buck.  For example, everyone’s got to brush their teeth, right?  With twice daily brushing, Sensodyne® True White® provides the sensitivity relief and helps whiten your teeth.  Perfect!  Two birds, one stone.  Now, you can turn to Sensodyne® True White® for a whiter smile and sensitivity relief, without the compromise.

Stick with it.  Regardless of what you hear on late-night tv, there’s no such thing as a miracle product.  It’s going to take time to get into the habit of taking care of yourself, and it’s going to take time for the products you choose to work.  Stick with your routine and you won’t be disappointed!
