It’s a common scenario.  It’s the end of the day.  You’re tired.  And you’re still short of your step goal.  Bummer.  If you’re as competitive with yourself as I am, you want to make that goal.  So here are some of my favorite ways to walk more steps to make your goal.

Pedometers are a great tool to encourage you to be more active. Here are 5 simple ways to make sure that you hit your daily step goal.

30 Second Dance Party.  Just like Meredith and Christina, with or without music, get your groove on for 30 seconds and watch your steps add up.

Take the long way.  When you go to the bathroom, or to tuck the kids in, don’t take the shortest path.  Go around a few extra corners.  Head upstairs, then back down.  And of course, you can always try the classics, like parking far away from the store.

Do some chores.  They have to get done anyway, so you might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Go to the store.  There are always things I need to pick up at the store.  Making that short trip can get me some bonus steps and check something off my to-do list.  Bonus points if you walk to the store!

Say hi to a neighbor.  Go knock on your neighbor’s door and say hi, or return the tool you borrowed last month (or year).  You’ll get at least 100 more steps and be a friendly neighbor.

Since I purchased my Garmin Vivofit I’m pretty driven to meet my goal.  It’s got a red bar that appears when I’m inactive for too long.  I truly loathe that red bar.  So to get rid of it, I’ll try one of the tips above, and that usually gets me moving for even longer.
