Well folks, it’s about time to take a look at our year so far.  Back in January I set my word of the year to be BOSS.  My goal for the year was to be more proactive, more productive, and more positive.  What were your goals?  Did you pick a work of the year?  Maybe you never went through a formal process, but you had a vision of where you’d like to be personally and professionally by the end of the year.  Maybe you never even thought about it!

No matter how you started your year, there’s no time like the present to take stock of how far you’ve come, and what you have to do to meet your goals.

At the beginning of 2017 I set some personal goals, things I wanted to accomplish in my life. After 6 months it's time to check in. Have the ideas and activities I've tried paid off?

Why bother with a mid-year check-in?

We’re just about halfway through the year, which means you should be approximately halfway to meeting your goal to be on track.  By taking the time to check in with yourself you can take a step back and objectively see if what you’ve been doing has been effective.  It’s also a good time to reaffirm your goals, and remind yourself of why you set them in the first place.

So… how am I doing?

Well, good and not so good.  My goal was to be a BOSS, take control of my life, and stop letting things just happen around me, and I’ve definitely made strides.

I still have, and will always have, anxiety.  It’s part of the fabric of me.  But what I wanted to accomplish this year is to push through that anxiety and live the life I want to live, even if it scares the crap out of me.  Because if you want to move forward, sometimes you have to do it scared.

Regardless of my anxiety I have taken some great risks in my personal life, my professional life, and here on this blog, and I’m not done yet!  This summer I plan to jump into the next phase of this wonderful area of my life and amaze even myself.

My second goal was to be a BOSS over my finances.  Let’s just say that’s a work in progress.  We had some big expenses this year and now we’re looking to consolidate our mortgage and refinance down to a 15-year loan instead.  It’s a scary step, but to be able to be completely debt-free before I retire would be fabulous!

And finally, I was going to be a BOSS over my health.  Of all the goals I set, this is the one I got most serious about right away.  I saw my doctor and got a prescription to help me with the eating portion and discovered that yoga is super fun, even if you’re not stick thin.  I’ve started walking again and, what do you know, my feet aren’t hurting like they were before.  Could it be because I’ve dropped 50 lbs so far this year?  Yep.  50 lbs!  I feel better, I look better, I eat better, and I’m a better role model for my daughter.

I’m not done working towards any of these goals.  They will be part of my life from here on out.  But by allowing myself the time to reflect, I can see just how far I’ve come, how far I have to go, and that maybe it’s time for a little course correction.  If fact I’ve just achieved a goal I thought was way far off in the distance.  I’ve opened the Creating My Happiness Shop!  There are a few bit of fun in there, but my favorite is the t-shirt with my new life’s motto.  Check it out, then head over the new shop and see what we’ve got!

You see that?  MAKE. IT. HAPPEN.

Now it’s your turn.  How are you doing with your goals?  Take the time today to examine where you’re at and where you want to be.  What do you have to do to get there?  Are you doing it?  Or are you waiting for it to happen on its own.
