The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. True in every area of life, especially getting started with fitness.
And when is the best time to take that step? Right now, my friend.
Have you ever said, “My diet starts Monday,” or something like that? Most people have. They’re going to get in shape next year. Quit smoking after their birthday. Go back to church next weekend.
Heaven knows I’m guilty of this, too. There are so many reasons (read: excuses) to put off big changes. Here are some of my biggies:
Someone’s birthday is this week, and I don’t want to miss out, so I’ll start after that.
I need to get some new clothes before I head to the gym. I’ll go shopping this weekend, then start.
I just bought cookies, and I hate waste. I’ll just finish those, then eat healthy.
Any of those sound familiar?
What are you waiting for?
Things that are important get done right away. That’s the way it should be. But reality is often a different story. We wait until our car breaks down to take it to a mechanic, we don’t see a doctor until we’re sick, and we put of getting started with fitness until we simply can’t ignore how out of shape we are.
Your health is important. What are you waiting for?
Where to start.
A friend of mine once told me that you can’t exercise your way out of a bad diet. With that in mind, if you can only make one change right now, change your diet.
Need proof? It would take 2 hours of walking to burn off the calories from 1 kit kat bar. 4 hours to walk off a Venti Mocha Frappuccino. 10 hours to walk off a Big Mac with fries! Getting fit would be sooooo much easier if you just didn’t eat those things.
Either that or buy stock in New Balance.
Start Now.
Do something today to live a healthier life. Make a healthy choice for dinner. Skip dessert. Go easy on the salt. Anything.
